ABU DHABI: UAE never compromises on road laws and wants all people to adhere to the country’s traffic guidelines to curb mishaps on the road. The officials won't dither before going for strict legal action against those who violate road traffic laws, and this has arguably reduced cases regarding traffic violations.

The authorities also provide accurate awareness about the rules to be followed by the drivers on the road. Now the Abu Dhabi Police has come out with a new warning for drivers including expatriates.

The Abu Dhabi Police has now announced strict action against drivers who leave their vehicle with the engine turned on while going to the store to buy goods or refuelling. Abu Dhabi Police has informed that a fine of up to 500 dirhams will be collected from such people. Cases of people leaving their vehicles in engine-turned-on conditions have been rampant in the UAE. People mostly leave their vehicles turned on to go to the supermarket to buy goods, fill fuel and withdraw money from ATMs.

Fines are being levied to reduce such incidents. Police fear that leaving a vehicle with the engine turned on can force some unscrupulous people to rob the vehicle away. Some people also have the practice of leaving their children in the car while leaving for supermarkets. This can invite drastic consequences. The Directorate of Traffic and Security Patrols has stated that further action will be taken against such drivers.
