KOZHIKODE: The police have registered a case against the Kozhikode NIT professor who commented in praise of Nathuram Vinayak Godse on January 30, the day of martyrdom of Mahatma Gandhi. The comment of Professor Shaija Andavan of the Department of Mechanical Engineering was under a Facebook post praising Godse. The professor commented that she is proud of Godse for saving India. On the complaint of the SFI area secretary, the Kundamangalam police registered a case.

A Facebook user 'Adv Krishnaraj' shared the picture of Godse with the caption "Hindu Mahasabha activist Nathuram Vinayak Godse. Hero of many people in India". The controversial now-deleted comment by the professor came under this post. Shailaja told a media that she had read the article 'Why Nathuram Killed Gandhi' and did not think that it would be controversial. "My job is to teach. Such a comment was made only on the basis of reading the article," she said.

DYFI had also filed a complaint with the Kozhikode Police Commissioner demanding a case against the professor. The complaint states that the professor has committed sedition by saying that Godse saved the country when Godse was sentenced to death for killing Gandhi. The complaint claims that this is part of an attempt to incite a riot in the society and hence strict legal action should be taken.
