NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednsday hit out at Congress and leader Rahul Gandhi in the Rajya Sabha. Quoting Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee's statement that the Congress will not win more than 40 seats in the next election, PM Modi said that her words should not be taken lightly and also quipped that he can pray for Congress to win at least 40 seats.

Taking a jibe at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's '400 seats' faux pas last week.

"I was pleased that Kharge spoke at length, but I wondered how he got the freedom to speak so much. Then I realised two special commanders were not there. Kharge made use of this opportunity. So he was having fun hitting fours and sixes. He must have heard the song, 'Aisa mauka phir kaha milega'," the Prime Minister said.

"The Congress, which consistently exploited caste, creed, and language fault lines; the Congress that fostered separatism and terrorism for its own interests; the Congress that exacerbated violence, separatism, and underdevelopment in the Northeast; the Congress whose governance posed a considerable hurdle in tackling Naxalism; the Congress that ceded substantial national territory to adversaries; and the Congress that impeded the modernisation of our armed forces, is now espousing views on national and internal security," said PM Modi during his speech.

Modi also took a sharp jibe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. "They have made a start-up for their 'Yuvraj'. But he is a non-starter, he neither lifts nor launches," he said.

Modi also mentioned about the activities of the Centre during the Covid era. It was possible to work as a team with the states and chief ministers during the covid period. The Prime Minister added that the policy of the Centre is to cooperate with the states.
