WAYANAD: Belur Magna, the rogue elephant that killed a man after entering the Mananthavady residential area, has established itself in Anappara area near Bavali, the forest team received the signal from the tracking collar.

Five DFOs have arrived for the mission. It is reported that four veterinary officers are also with them. A warning has also been given to the people in Thirunelli region to not come out of their houses unnecessarily.

Earlier, the elephant was located near Mannundi Colony area, about eight kilometres away from Chaligadda. Considering this, the forest officials were worried about how to tranquillize the giant. If the elephant crosses the Karnataka border, the forest official will drop the plan of tranquillizing.

Chaligadda is close to the Karnataka forest border. Chances remain about the elephant moving inside into the dense forest. The people in this area are worried and admit to hearing elephants trumpeting on Saturday night.

However, it is still not clear whether this is the same elephant that killed farmer Ajeesh on Saturday morning. It is currently being reported that Bharat and Vikram, two kumki elephants are being shifted from Bavali to the Chelloor region. This gives another indication that the DFO is not yet backing out from the mission of tranquillizing the elephant.

Currently, more forest officials are also reaching the colony area where elephants are stationed. If the elephant comes out from the forest area, it will be tranquillized. After this, the DFO plans to shift the giant one to Muthanga camp.
