MUMBAI: Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer were recently dropped from BCCI's annual contract. It was only when the BCCI's annual contract list was released on Wednesday that these prominent players were dropped from the Indian team. Both didn't play in Test series against England and also in domestic cricket.

While the reason for this has not been officially specified, the BCCI has warned that all players should actively participate in domestic cricket when they are not playing for the national team. On December 17, during the tour of South Africa, Ishan Kishan asked to be excluded from the squad due to personal reasons. Kishan subsequently did not play in the Test series. After this, it was expected that Ishan Kishan will play for his team Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy but it didn't happen. Kishan was not ready to participate in the England Test series.

Ishan Kishan also rejected coach Rahul Dravid's demand that the team should participate in some kind of domestic matches if they want to qualify for a place in India. Shreyas also withdrew from Ranji due to injury. Meanwhile, Dhruv Jurrell, who replaced Ishan Kishan in the England series, performed well in keeping and batting and won the player of the match award.
