Diagnosed with cancer on launch of Aditya L-1, says ISRO Chief Somanth

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) chief S Somnath said that he has been diagnosed with cancer. Somnath said that he was diagnosed with the disease on the day of the launch of Aditya L-1. He revealed this in an interview given to a media. Cancer was detected in the stomach during scanning.

He said, “There were some health issues during Chandrayaan-3 mission launch. It was not clarified then. This was a shock to me and my family.

After diagnosing the disease, went to Chennai for further tests. Was admitted in the hospital for four days. Resumed work on the fifth day.

Was subjected for chemotherapy. It is uncertain whether complete cure is possible. Tests are being conducted continuously. I am continuing with my work,” he said.

Somnath said that he is now completely cured. He said that he inherited the disease genetically and would be undergoing regular checkups and scans.
