Lottery first prize amount will be increased to 1 crore, ticket price will be hiked to Rs 50; Lottery department's recommendation

KOCHI: The Lottery department is planning to increase the first prize of lotteries sold daily in the state to one crore. The minimum prize money will be reduced from Rs 100 to Rs 50. The price of tickets may be increased from Rs 40 to Rs 50. A decision on the recommendation submitted by the department to the government may be taken after Ramzan.

The move is aimed at making lottery sales more attractive and increasing revenue. Currently, only the Fifty-Fifty lottery (priced at Rs 50) has a prize of Rs 1 crore. The move is to increase the prize money and price of other tickets similarly. The first prize for the bumpers will be decided at the respective times.

At present, 54 percent of sales are given as gifts. This will be increased to 58 percent. Printing of tickets will also be increased. This is based on the fact that at present, all printed tickets are getting sold out. In the last budget, it was announced that the printing of tickets would be increased. It is also recommended to increase the number of lottery series from 12 to 15.

Ticket scanning machine

  • A ticket-scanning machine will be installed to expedite prize distribution
  • Through this, more tickets can be handled. The workload of the employees will be reduced
  • Keltron has been tasked with preparing the prototype of the machines
  • If approved by the Government Technical Committee, the manufacturing permit will be issued
  • It will be established in Thiruvananthapuram district office first
