Didn't you take dead body from mortuary without consent for political gain?; High Court with criticism

KOCHI: The High Court on Tuesday criticised the Congress activists, who organised a protest in Kothamangalam by carrying the dead body of Indira who was killed by a wild elephant. The court was considering the plea submitted by Ernakulam DCC President Muhammad Shiyas against the case registered by the police in the incident. The court will consider the plea again on Thursday.

Lashing out at Shiyas, the court asked whether the Congress activists took the body of Indira from the mortuary without consent.

"Didn't you take the body from the mortuary without consent for political gain? Didn't you manhandle a police officer during the protest? How can you say that a case shouldn't be registered against it?" the court asked.

Muhammad Shiyas' advocate said that the police registered four cases in the incident. However, the court pointed out that Shiyas could've approached the court in the incident.

Meanwhile, Opposition Leader VD Satheesan has responded to the court's criticism against Shiyas.

"We will face the case legally. Indira's body was taken out of the mortuary with the consent of her family. The families of many people who died in wildlife attacks are yet to receive adequate compensation. Indira's family got compensation because of Congress's struggle," Satheesan said.
