Studies report that restricting food intake to short periods of time each day for weight loss and health care increases the risk of heart disease and deaths 91 percent of the time. Many people adopt the intermittent fasting method because weight loss with the help of drugs can lead to side effects. However, a study conducted by the American Heart Association says that restricting eating time to eight hours a day is dangerous. An increased risk was also found in those in the fasting group who only ate at 12-16-hour intervals.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention collected data on 20,000 people. The average age of almost half of these men was 48 years. Most of them were overweight and followed irregular diets. They had less hypertension, diabetes and heart diseases. The study was from 2003 to 2019. The data was analyzed by researchers at Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine.
