'Poor people won't waste Rs 300 for Starbucks coffee'; Prediction gone wrong in Modi's Varanasi
LUCKNOW: The world's leading coffee chain Starbucks has opened its outlet in the divine city of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Many were pessimistic about the move and dismissed the plan as a total botch since they found it nearly impossible for such a giant firm to taste success in a demography that mostly consists of financially poor people.
All such predictions from contrarian voices were thrown into the air after the Starbucks outlet in Varanasi saw a beeline queue of customers on the opening day of the shop. The video of the big rush in front of the shop has already gone viral on the internet. A long line of vehicles can also be seen in the footage.
Many people also took a jibe at the sceptics who jumped to the conclusion that the people of Varanasi would abruptly refuse to pay Rs 300 for a coffee. The new outlet of Starbucks opened in Varanasi on March 22. Tata Global Beverages and Starbucks Coffee Company operate in India as equal partners. Starbucks currently has outlets in 30 cities in India.
