Prime accused in Sarabjeet Singh murder case shot dead in Lahore; Attackers remain unidentified

LAHORE: One of the prime suspects in the 2013 killing of Sarabjeet Singh, an Indian national in Pakistan's Kot Lakhpat Jail, has been shot dead. Amir Sarfaraz alias Tamba was killed in a shooting by unidentified assailants on bikes in Lahore's Islampura area. The attack occurred near Amir's residence in Lahore. In the early hours of Sunday morning, the gunmen fired at Amir four times. He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to excessive bleeding, as reported by Pakistani national media.

Family members alleged that Tamba had been receiving threats to his life and had been receiving menacing messages in recent days. Unknown assailants shot him twice in the chest and twice in the leg. The attackers remain unidentified. The Islampura police have registered a case based on the complaint filed by Tamba's brother, Junaid Sarfaraz. It is reported that one of the assailants wore a helmet while the other wore a mask.

Sarabjeet Singh, a farmer from the Bhikhiwind area near the Indo-Pak border, inadvertently crossed into Pakistan in 1991 and was subsequently imprisoned by Pakistan on charges of being a RAW agent. In 2013, Sarabjeet was killed by fellow inmates at Lakhpat Jail. In December 2018, the Lahore court acquitted the suspects Tamba and Mudasar due to lack of evidence.
