Bigg Boss program may have to be stopped, High Court makes critical observation; Centre also intervenes

KOCHI: A petition has been filed against the television reality show Bigg Boss, which is being aired on a private channel. Following this, the Kerala High Court issued an order to examine the programme's content. The court order stated that the program should be reviewed to see if there was any violation of broadcasting rules. The Kerala High Court has directed the Union Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to conduct an inquiry into the matter.

Bigg Boss is a live reality show which ​​is being shot and broadcast in several Indian languages, including Malayalam. The complainant noted in his petition that several offences, including causing bodily harm, are occurring on the reality show.

It was a lawyer from Ernakulam who filed a petition in the High Court against the reality show. Considering the petition, the division bench comprising Justices A Muhammad Musthaq and MA Abdul Hakkeem said that the program can be stopped if it is found to be violating the law. The court will consider the petition again on April 25.

Malayalam superstar Mohanlal is the host of the Malayalam version of Bigg Boss. The program has a large number of fans, including youngsters. However, the show is often criticized for its content and the behaviour of its contestants.
