Thrissur is one of the few constituencies in India that promises a triangular contest. The constituency which always flipped between LDF and UDF has now seen a surge in saffron supporters. The changing political scenario was evident with PM Modi’s repeated visits to the constituency, to endorse actor Suresh Gopi’s candidature.

And now Congress candidate and yet another favourite for the MP seat, K Muraleedharan shared his thoughts with Kerala Kaumudi.

How is the election response?

There is a big positive response from people. We are going to win with a huge majority.

About Prime Minister Narendra Modi's repeated visits to Thrissur?

This is Kerala. No matter how many times Modi visits, not even one BJP candidate will win from Kerala. Congress has a strong grassroots presence in Thrissur. It will be evident in the elections.

Will this election be an assessment of the state government’s work?

Exactly. For the first time, the pension of poor people has been frozen. All this happened as a result of profligacy. The central government has not yet paid money to many states, but nowhere else has witnessed such economic deterioration as in Kerala.

Your sister Padmaja said you won’t win this time....

She will continue to make such inane statements. It does not matter.

You are facing two strong candidates…

No problem. This is not a wrestling match. People will give their decision and we will work to gain their trust.
