NEW DELHI: India has conveyed its strong protest against Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's participation in a pro-Khalistan event. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) conveyed its protest to Canada by summoning the Canadian Deputy High Commissioner.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had attended the Khalsa event held in Toronto on April 28. Pro-Khalistan slogans were raised by the crowd when Trudeau took the stage to speak at the event. The crowd repeated the slogan while Trudeau delivered the speech. The crowd continued to raise the slogans even when Canadian opposition leader Pierre Poilievre came to deliver a speech. Trudeau also said in his speech that he would protect the rights of the Sikh community at any cost. The video footage of Trudeau's speech has also come out.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement that India has conveyed its protest and concern over the incident to the Canadian High Commissioner. The MEA also said that the incident would once again give space to separatism and violence on Canadian soil. The MEA also stated that if Trudeau continues to take such a position, it will affect the relationship between the two countries and lead to an increase in violence in Canada.
