Driving test reform: High Court to issue interim order tomorrow on petition seeking cancellation of circular

KOCHI: Tomorrow, the Kerala High Court will issue an interim order on the petition against the driving test reform introduced in the state. The petition was filed by driving school owners and employees seeking the cancellation of the circular issued by the Transport Commissioner proposing the reform of the driving test.

The petition states that the circular issued by the Transport Commissioner is against the central law and that the state government cannot change the law. As a result, the petitioners are asking that this circular be revoked and that a stay be placed on it until the court delivers its verdict on the petition.

However, the Motor Vehicle Department is claiming that the driving test reform is being implemented following the steps of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules. The Motor Vehicle Department informed the court that it sought to improve efficiency by employing a gearless two-wheeler for the tests and advising against driving vehicles older than fifteen years.

Meanwhile, the joint strike committee is of the stand that it will not allow the motor vehicle department to conduct the driving tests. The committee has decided to intensify the strike on the issue tomorrow. At the same time, the Transport Minister is not ready to make any compromise on the issue.
