NEW DELHI: Former wrestler and wrestling federation president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has been denied a seat in the Lok Sabha elections by the BJP. The party opted for Uttar Pradesh Wrestling Federation President Karan Bhushan Singh, son of Brij, to fill the void. Brij Bhushan is currently the MP of Kaiserganj in Uttar Pradesh and has represented the constituency six times in the Lok Sabha.

Brij Bhushan has earlier resigned as the president of the wrestling federation after facing a huge political backlash regarding the alleged sexual crimes against female wrestlers. BJP deftly opted for Karan Bhushan after discerning the setback they would receive if fielded Brij Bhushan.

Polling in the constituency will be held in the fifth phase on the 20th. Brij Bhushan's elder son Pratik Bhushan Singh is an MLA.

Meanwhile, BJP has fielded Pratap Singh from Rae Bareli, a Congress stronghold and Sonia Gandhi's constituency.
