SREEKARYAM: A crack has developed in the glass bridge constructed as part of the tourism development project in the Akkulam Tourist Village. The crack developed in the glass panel on the part leading to the bridge.
The three-layer glass pane was allegedly smashed by a weapon blow, according to VK Prasanth MLA. He also claimed that anti-social elements were behind it. The Vattiyoorkavu Youth Brigade Entrepreneurs Cooperative Society, which is constructing the glass bridge along with DTPC, has filed a complaint with the Sreekaryam Police.
The tourism department is constructing the glass bridge considering the huge development potential in the field of tourism. The bridge, built at a cost of one and a half crores, is 75 feet high and 52 meters long. 20 people can travel on the bridge at the same time. The bridge was supposed to be inaugurated on March 13. However, the inauguration was postponed due to the collapse of the floating bridge in Varkala.
