Funeral of infant killed by mother in Kochi to be held today

KOCHI: The funeral of the infant, who was suffocated to death by her 23-year-old mother moments after birth, will be held at the crematorium in Pullepady on Monday morning.

Ernakulam South Police and Corporation will preside the function. Neither the child's parents nor their relatives will participate.

Senior officials of Kochi City Police and employees of the Corporation will be present.

Yesterday, the police got permission from the family of the woman to bury the baby's body kept at the Kalamasery Medical College Mortuary. The infant's mother is in the hospital. Her detailed statements have not been taken. The police are planning to take the statement after taking them into custody. A sample was collected from the woman for DNA testing. The baby's blood samples were collected earlier.
