Heat wave alert for three districts including Thiruvananthapuram, temperature will rise up to 39 degrees
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is a heat wave warning in various districts of the state on May 8 and May 9. The central meteorological department has informed that heat wave conditions will prevail in various areas of Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha and Kozhikode. In the coming days, Kollam, Palakkad and Kozhikode will see high temperature of 39 degrees, Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Ernakulam and Thrissur will see high temperature of 38 degrees, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and Kannur will rise to 37 degrees and Malappuram and Kasaragod will rise to 36 degrees.
A heat wave is a situation that calls for extreme caution. Public and non-governmental organizations should exercise alert. Sunburn and sunstroke are more likely to occur. Sunstroke can even lead to death.
Instructions to be followed strictly
- Avoid going out during day as much as possible
- Completely stop all outdoor work, sports, and other activities that expose the body to direct sunlight
- Drink plenty of water
- Go out only for essentials. Always use umbrella and footwear when going out
- Those who engage in strenuous activities should take breaks and rest
- Avoid alcohol, carbonated drinks, tea and coffee completely during the day as they cause dehydration
- Ensure air circulation at home, office and workplace
- Special provision should be made for bed-ridden patients, elderly, pregnant women, children, disabled and those suffering from disabilities due to other diseases
- All public events should be postponed to evenings
- The public should exercise self-restraint and stay safe as much as possible
