KOCHI: “What will your father give”; according to the father of the victim of the Pantheerankavu domestic violence case, this was the constant harangue from the mother-in-law to his daughter, right after she got married to Rahul P. Gopal.

Victim’s father:

“My daughter replied that her father would do something according to his current financial capability. There were also several hints before. When I used to visit the house before marriage, the mother-in-law would remind me about her son’s education and job. If this is not an implicit mention of dowry, then what is it? They expected more gold from us and this was the sole reason for the repeated pestering.

And now, they are changing the narrative saying they never wanted dowry. Rahul had abused and beaten my girl very badly. They now say all the problems arose due to my daughter’s dubious phone calls and messages. She has many friends, both male and female. After the marriage, they have conveyed their wishes through messages and phone calls.

Should friendship be avoided after marriage? Should a girl be brutally beaten for sending messages to friends? The police can take my daughter’s phone to verify anything.

Rahul is a habitual offender. He once registered marriage with another girl and lived together in Bengaluru. We were drawn into this marriage without knowing all this. Even his family kept all these details secret.“

The father said that the police made serious mistakes in registering the case and demanded action against the officers. A complaint was made to the Chief Minister. The Special Investigation Team was also informed about this.
