Four districts on special alert, chance of waterlogging and landslides, rains to intensify in capacity city in coming hours

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Many places in the state received rain with thunder Monday morning. The central meteorological department has announced red alert in four districts and orange alert in three districts today. As per the latest radar image, there is a possibility of moderate rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram in the next three hours and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 km per hour.

The meteorological department has informed that heavy rainfall means rainfall of more than 204.4 mm in 24 hours. Orange alert 20-05-2024: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Ernakulam 21-05-2024: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Ernakulam 22-05-2024: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram 23-05-2024: The central meteorological department has announced orange alert in the districts of Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam. Expected Impacts There is a possibility of waterlogging on major roads / blurred visibility in vehicles and traffic jams may occur. Possibility of waterlogging/flooding in low-lying areas and river banks. Falling trees may lead to power outages/accidents. Possibility of partial damage to houses and huts. Possibility of landslides and mudslides. The rains are likely to adversely affect humans and livestock and damage vulnerable coastal structures. Due to strong winds and bad weather, there is a warning not to go to sea from the Kerala coast until further notice.
