Seven killed, 48 injured in massive explosion at Dombivli factory

MUMBAI: In a shocking incident, at least seven people were killed in an explosion at a chemical factory in Maharashtra's Dombivli. The incident left 48 people injured and all of them are currently undergoing treatment. Many injured people are continuing in critical condition. The blast took place in the industrial unit of the factory on Thursday afternoon.

The massive explosion was later followed by smaller explosions at various plants in the factory. Fearing the high number of people trapped inside, a search is being conducted under the leadership of the police and the fire force. The fire from the factory also spread into another building nearby and also to a car showroom. Local media and news agencies report that the impact of the blast also damaged the window panes of nearby houses. As per reports, it was four boilers of Amber Chemical Company that exploded in the tragic incident.

Civil Defense Officer Bimal Nathwani said the explosion occurred around 1:30 PM. He told news agency ANI that the explosion caused tremors even up to one and a half kilometres away from the incident spot.
