The accused then admitted himself to the ward on the pretext that has a psychological disorder. AIIMS security officials had told the police that it was not safe to bring the accused outside. Following this, the police entered the ward by driving the SUV through the path used by ambulances to transport critically ill patients and took the accused into custody. Although the protestors tried to stop the jeep, the security personnel moved them away.

The District Magistrate of Dehradun was directed to form an inquiry committee immediately. The Women's Commission chairperson also gave instructions to suspend Assistant Nursing Superintendent Sinoj, a Malayali, who assigned the accused to duty even after receiving the complaint.
