THRISSUR: According to reports, the earlier police investigation into the organ trade in Mullassery was stopped midway due to the non-cooperation of the victims involved in the murky business. Despite giving the statements, the victims debunked the trade business angle but told police that the organs were given to their close relatives. Even the hospitals that conducted such surgeries took a stand with the victims, thereby putting the police in a fix.

At the same time, it was alleged that the police did not continue the investigation despite getting information that thirty people in Mullassery panchayat had engaged in organ trade and that the hospitals were in collusion with the mafia. The complainant, Mullassery Jivakarunya Samiti president C A Babu, gave information about two agents, including a woman, to the police but to no avail. Most of the victims were residents of slums and colonies in this region. There are indications that some of the donors are absconding with the shady news coming out.

In other news, a man reportedly fled with Rs 5 lakh which his woman partner acquired from the organ trade business. The woman had traded her kidney for this huge sum of money. The kidney was sold to raise money for her daughter's education. And now, it is reported that the woman attempted suicide after learning about her partner’s unscrupulous act.
