Bounty of five crores, body was left in pieces; one arrested in case of Bangladesh MP's murder

Mumbai: The Kolkata Crime Branch (CID) has arrested one person in the incident where Bangladesh MP Anwarul Azim Anar was murdered in Kolkata. The CID has informed that the individual who was arrested is a contract killer who hails from Barakpur in Khulna in Bangladesh.

The culprit was staying illegally in Mumbai. The MP’s daughter Mumtarin Ferdous Dorin also came forward demanding that the culprit should be hanged to death as punishment for his crimes. The accused had reached Mumbai from Kolkata two months ago on the instructions of Akhtaruzzaman, an American citizen of Bangladeshi origin who is believed to have issued the order to kill Anwarul.

The accused had been staying in a hotel near the airport. Akhtaruzzam had given him 5 crore rupees to kill Anwarul. According to the information given by the CID, part of the money had already been received by the killer.

Anwarul was last seen in an apartment in Newtown, Kolkata. The investigation officer has informed that the flat was owned by Akhtaruzzman who gave the flat for rent to Anwarul. The police suspect that Anwarul was brought to the flat after trapping him in a honeytrap. Police found CCTV footage showing a woman and two men leaving while carrying two big suitcases. They are checking some other footage as well.

Akhtaruzzman was a close friend of Anwarul. A few Bangladeshi media outlets had reported that the two of them together were involved in gold smuggling. Anwarul Azim Anar was a member of the Awami League Party. He had been missing from May 13th. The news that he was killed was released by Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan.

Anwarul Azim had come to India for medical reasons on the 12th of May. However, his body is yet to be found. Police suspect that his body has been cut into pieces and disposed of in different locations.
