KOCHI: Bishop Joseph Kariyil on Saturday heavily lashed out at the recently released Malayalam movies, alleging them of promoting alcoholism among teens. The criticism came during a program for children, organised by the Church in Kochi.

“The song "Illuminati" in the movie ‘Aavesham’ is against the church's beliefs. These movies are now being promoted as good films. If you ask any children today to sing one song, they will jump to hum the song ‘Illuminati’. However many people do not know that the Illuminati is a covert clan working against the church. The movie ‘Aavesham’ is replete with booze, fights and violence. Another film ‘Premalu’ is not bad either and promotes alcoholism among youths." said the bishop.

Written and directed by Jitu Madhavan with Fahadh Faasil in the lead role, ‘Aavesham’ recently stepped into the prestigious 100 crore club and was a massive success. The movie was produced by Anwar Rasheed under the banner of Anwar Rasheed Entertainments and Nazriya Naseem under the banner of Fahad Fazil & Friends.
