Heavy rains predicted in nine districts, alert issued

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There will be moderate rain at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam in the next three hours. The central meteorological department has informed that light rain is also possible at isolated places in Thrissur and Malappuram.


The National Centre for Oceanography and Oceanography (INCOIS) has informed that up to 11.30 pm tonight, there is a possibility of 1.1 to 1.5 meter high waves and storm surge with a speed of between 45 cm and 81 cm per second.


The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Center has informed that till 11.30 tonight, there is a possibility of 1.3 to 1.6 meter high waves and storm surge along the southern Tamil Nadu coast with a speed of between 45 cm and 81 cm per second.


The Meteorological Centre has informed that the monsoon will reach the state on May 31st, when the summer rains will end. The initial warning was that there would be no rain for two days, but that was revised yesterday.

The rain warning is in the second phase of the monsoon forecast report of the Central Meteorological Department. States including Kerala will receive heavier than normal rainfall in June. India may receive 106 percent rainfall from June to September. North India will get 92 to 108 percent rainfall.
