Actress Kani Kusruti, in a post on Facebook, said that her comments circulating in the online media have been edited. The video footage of some parts of Kani's interview went viral recently. "None of this happened with my knowledge. I am in no way responsible for the allegations and comments in the said contents," she said.

"After Payal Kapadia's film All We Imagine As Light, in which I was a part, was screened in competition at the Cannes festival, there was a lot of discussion on social media about my role in Sajin Babu's Malayalam film Biriyaani, against the backdrop of my Palestinian solidarity at the festival. In this case, I have seen interviews that I did not give and opinions that are not mine in some online media. These people are spreading edited videos completely opposite to what I intended. Let me make it clear that I am not in any way responsible for the allegations and comments in the said contents as this is not happening with my knowledge.

PS : Please note that this had to be written only in Malayalam," Kani wrote in Facebook.

As per the controversial interview video, Kani acted without interest in 'Biriyaani'. She also said that she could not agree with the politics in the film and acted in it for money. After the video went viral, the film's director also came with a response.

Sajin Babu said that Kani Kusruti was paid according to the budget. He further said that there are no personal problems between him and Kani and that some people are now discussing Biriyaani to belittle the great achievement of Indian cinema at the Cannes Film Festival.
