Accused in Siddharth case to be released after 100 days in remand

KALPATTA: After 100 days, the accused remanded in connection with the death of JS Siddharth, a second-year BVSc student at Pookode Veterinary College released.

On February 18, Siddharth was found hanging in the hostel washroom. Although there were initial allegations regarding Siddharth's death, the police only registered a case and began investigating after Siddharth's family disclosed the incident to the media a few days later.

It became clear that Siddharth had hanged himself after days of brutal beatings and mental torture. His father Jayaprakash, accused those responsible for his son's death of murder. Initially, the local police investigated the case followed by the CBI. Although the death was not ruled a murder, both investigating teams confirmed that Siddharth had been subjected to brutal torture. High Court granted bail to all 19 accused in the charge sheet after the CBI completed its preliminary investigation and submitted the charge sheet to the court.

The accused were arrested by the police between February 22 and 26. The court prohibited the accused from entering Wayanad district on the grounds that their presence could lead to the destruction of evidence.
