Govt imposes alcohol ban for five days; Dry days ahead for Bengaluru

BENGALURU: With the election results of the Lok Sabha and the legislative council around the corner, the government in Karnataka has banned the sale of liquor for five days. As per government order, the sale of liquor has been banned from Saturday till the 4th due to the polling of the Legislative Council elections and the announcement of the results of the Lok Sabha elections on June 4.

Apart from this, the state will again observe a dry day on June 6; the result announcement day of the legislative council.

The sale and consumption of liquor were banned under the Representation of the People Act, 1951. Excise department officials in the state said that the ban will be applicable on the production, sale, distribution and storage of liquor on the above-mentioned dates. The order applies to liquor stores, wine shops, bars, hotels and restaurants that are permitted to serve alcohol.

At the same time, Bevco officials informed that Saturday and the 4th of June will be a dry day in Kerala. The liquor ban on the fourth of June was made in the wake of the Lok Sabha election results.
