Sexual assault on ten-year-old girls in Kozhikode; elderly man arrested under POCSO

KOZHIKODE: An elderly man has been arrested for sexually assaulting minor girls. The incident happened in Thamarassery, Kozhikode. A 51-year-old man was arrested for sexually assaulting two ten-year-old girls.

The accused sexually assaulted the two neighbouring girls in his own house. The children informed their friends about the incident and they are the ones who informed the parents. The accused was arrested under POCSO based on a complaint filed by the children's parents with the Thamarassery police.

Meanwhile, the Koipuram police arrested a youth who sexually assaulted an eight-year-old girl in Pathanamthitta. Liju Thomas (31) was arrested. Police said that he took the girl on a scooter at 12:30 pm yesterday and sexually assaulted her at the canal bridge near Kanjeettukara. After the child reported the information, the mother lodged a complaint with the Koipuram police. The accused was produced in court and remanded.

Court sentenced the stepfather who sexually assaulted a nine-year-old girl to 80 years in prison in Palakkad. The police found that the molestation took place with the knowledge of the child's mother. Apart from sentencing the stepfather to 80 years, the court also sentenced the child's mother to three years in prison. The sentence in the POCSO case was passed by the Palakkad Pattambi court.
