Kerala to receive heavy rainfall in next three hours; rough sea alert issued

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that various districts in Kerala would receive light to moderate rainfall in the next three hours. According to the warning issued by the IMD, isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Malappuram and Kannur districts will receive light to moderate rainfall.

It also warned that isolated places in Kerala will receive moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) today and tomorrow.

The National Center for Oceanographic Studies (INCOIS) has stated that there is a possibility of high waves of 1.2 to 1.5 meters and rough seas on the Kerala coast till 11.30 pm on Wednesday. It further stated that there is a possibility of high waves of 1.4 to 1.6 meters and rough seas on the Tamil Nadu coast till 11.30 pm on Wednesday.

Fisherfolks should exercise caution
1. As the rough seas are likely to intensify, fisher folks should stay away from the danger areas as per the instructions of the authorities.
2. Keep fishing vessels (boats, ships) safely moored in the harbour. Maintaining a safe distance between boats can avoid the possibility of collision.
3. People should completely avoid trips to the beach and activities at sea.
