Strong winds and bad weather likely along Kerala coast; three districts on alert today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The central meteorological department has predicted rain in various districts of the state today. The central meteorological department informed that there is a possibility of moderate rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Kozhikode of Kerala in the next three hours with gusty winds of up to 40 kmph.


Yellow alert has been announced in Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod today. The central meteorological department has directed fishermen not to venture in the sea in the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts.


There is a possibility of strong winds and bad weather conditions along the coasts of Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep with a speed of 35 to 45 kmph and on some occasions up to 55 kmph from tomorrow till June 8.


Fishermen and coastal residents have been asked to be alert.


1. As the rough seas are likely to intensify, stay away from the danger areas as per the instructions of the authorities.


2. Keep fishing vessels like boats etc. safely moored in the harbour. Keeping a safe distance between boats can avoid the possibility of collision. Safety of fishing equipment should be ensured.


3. Avoid trips to the beach and activities at sea completely.
