MALAPPURAM: After the great victory of the League in Ponnani and Malappuram, the entire leadership came forward with a message of unity, but the Muslim League is adamant that action should be taken against the anti-party members of the organization.

The aim is to clean Samastha ahead of local and assembly elections. The prevailing opinion in the league is that the problem will repeat itself if there is a compromise. The League is also of the opinion that the issue can be resolved amicably if Samastha is ready to announce against anti-League leaders. Samastha President Jiffiri Muthukoya Thangal appealed to the workers after the Mushavara meeting held in Kozhikode yesterday to maintain community unity. Misleading news and writing should stop. He also asked that there should be no action against unity.

The League's assessment is that the rift with Samastha did not reflect at all at the grassroots level. The controversy effectively galvanized activists. In Ponnani, where the anti-League was active, it got almost half a lakh more votes than the majority in 2019. A record majority of three lakhs in Malappuram. The League's advancement has become a setback for the anti-League Samastha activists.

Samastha not ready for dispute

The Mushavara meeting in Kozhikode yesterday decided not to go into further disputes with the League. The meeting ended the controversy without further clarification from pro-League Mushavara member Bahauddin Nadvi, who had publicly alleged that some members of the Samastha were close to the CPM. Appreciating Nadvi's earlier explanation as satisfactory, the meeting decided not to discuss further. Umar Faizi Mukum also clarified that he did not say to vote for CPM.
