Fierce rains likely to pound Kerala in next five days; Orange alert in two districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: IMD has issued an orange alert in two districts of Kerala that are likely to receive heavy rain. An orange alert has been announced in Malappuram and Wayanad districts. The Indian Meteorological Department has warned about heavy rains continuing in the state for the next five days.

A yellow alert has been announced today in Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts due to heavy rain. Heavy rain of 6.45 mm to 115.5 mm is expected in the next 24 hours.

Yellow Alert:

  • Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasaragod districts on Friday.

  • Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode on Saturday.

  • Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts on Sunday.

  • Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts on Monday.

IMD has also prohibited fishermen from venturing into the sea during these days as strong winds with speeds of 35 to 45 km per hour are likely from tomorrow to June 10 along the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts. Strong winds with gustiness of 35 to 45 kmph at occasionally up to 55 kmph and bad weather conditions are likely over the southern parts of the West Midwest Bay of Bengal and North Andaman Sea.

Strong winds and bad weather conditions are likely over the Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar, Kanyakumari coast, Central Bay of Bengal adjoining South Bay of Bengal and North Andaman Sea on Friday.
