THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The weakening organizational setup of Congress within the state will be put into discussion in the KPCC leadership meeting on Friday. The meeting will chiefly review the election performance and will also address the complaints of candidates. In some parts of Alappuzha where KC Venugopal contested, the absence of some congress unit presidents from campaigning was palpable. All this will be addressed in the meeting.

Congress will also evaluate the defeat in Thrissur and Alathur constituencies and mostly, the rise of BJP in Kerala. Despite the UDF wave, strong leaders such as K. Muraleedharan and Ramya Haridas conceded defeat which the party takes seriously. A committee of top leaders may be tasked to look into the defeat.

Therambil Ramakrishnan, senior congress leader has demanded the party to study deeply the erosion of minority votes in Thrissur. According to the initial assessment, a lack of coordination among leaders while campaigning during the initial phase is blamed for the loss in Alathur.

There will be no immediate organizational changes, including the removal of K. Sudhakaran from the post of KPCC president. Reorganization of office bearers may also be prolonged. AICC General Secretary Deepa Das Munshi, who is in charge of Kerala, may clarify the matter after holding discussions with the state leaders. Ahead of the local elections, there is a possibility that the work will be done at the organizational level.
