Vizhinjam port is 85 percent complete: Minister Vasavan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister VN Vasavan informed the Legislative Assembly that the construction of the Vizhinjam port is 85 per cent complete. Speaking at the Question Hour, the minister said that the trial run can be conducted by the end of June and that it is expected that the commercial operations of the port can be started within December.

The officials of the Ports and Fisheries Department held three rounds of talks with the trade unions. The minister informed this in response to the question of Neyyatinkara MLA A Ansalan. The minister said that 600 people will be directly employed when the first phase of the port becomes operational.
