NEW DELHI: George Kurian, who took charge as Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Dairy and Animal Husbandry and Minority Affairs, said that he would work to improve the social and economic condition of the minority groups.

"I will work to improve the social and economic condition of the minority groups. I will study issues, including the hike in airfares during Hajj, and take action. There is a definite development pipeline for the fisheries, dairy and animal husbandry sector," George Kurian said.

"I will visit Muthalappozhi in Thiruvananthapuram during my first visit to Kerala. Former Union Minister V Muraleedharan brought the matter to my attention. He demanded that I should intervene in the matter. After going there and seeking people's opinion, a plan will be prepared to solve the problem," he said.

"My work will be based on the development document of the Modi government. This is the continuation of the 10-year activities of the Narendra Modi government. I would like to thank Prime Minister Modi for giving me this opportunity. Procedures are in progress in connection with the Pope's visit to India," he added.
