THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam told the media that there is a need for self-criticism following the defeat in the Lok Sabha elections and that the party is not demanding a change in leadership at the government level.

"People have tried to express their opinion about the government in the elections. It is not a negative thing. People expect that the state government will be able to seriously intervene in the problems of common people. It is not the government's fault. The government would look into basic issues like the distribution of pensions and the distribution of essential items through Supplyco on a priority basis. The BJP government suffocated the state government in every sense. We will compete in Wayanad with the hope of victory. CPM and CPI will not have a joint committee to examine election defeat," Binoy Viswam said.

"CPM and CPI have a brotherly relationship. There was a good front relationship everywhere. The defeat in Thrissur is a big lesson. It is a result that secularists should take seriously. We would learn all these lessons with humility," he added.
