NEW DELHI: Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal has said that there is no change in the decision to implement the new criminal laws from July 1. Senior lawyers, including the All India Lawyers Union, have demanded that the Indian Penal Code, 1860, Evidence Act, 1872 and Criminal Procedure Code, 1973, shouldn't be immediately replaced by the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita, the Bharatiya Nagarika Suraksha Samhita and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam.

The Law Minister explained that in the present scenario, all the three laws have many innovative ideas and are suitable for the new times. It was passed by Parliament in December 2023 and got the President's assent in the same month, but the notification was issued in February.
