Dr Samuel Mor Theophilus becomes new Metropolitan of Believers Eastern Church

THIRUVALLA: The synod meeting elected Dr. Samuel Mor Theophilus Episcopa, Archbishop of Chennai, as the President of the Believers Eastern Church. The election was held since Mar Athanasius Yohan I Metropolitan, who was the President of the church, passed away. The Synod also elected Joshua Mar Barnabas Episcopa as Secretary. The ordination ceremony will be held on the 22nd at St Thomas Believers Eastern Church Cathedral in Kuttapuzha, Thiruvalla.

Samuel Mor Theophilus was born on August 27, 1959 in Cherukole Keekozhoor Pathanamthitta district. He started church work at the age of 17 and worked in places like Karnataka, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. He holds a bachelor's and master's degree in theology and a Ph.D.

He was the General Secretary of the Believers Church from 2004 to 2007. Then he became the Principal of Thiruvalla Major Seminary for a year. He became a deacon in 1987. He became a priest in 1997 and an episcopate in 2006. He has written books in Malayalam, English and Kannada.
