One more arrested in MDMA seizure worth over Rs 0.5 cr in Kochi

KOCHI: One more person has been arrested in connection with the arrest of a woman in Aluva for possessing one kg of MDMA worth more than Rs 0.5 crore. The arrested has been identified as Safeer, a native of Kochi. Sarmeen Akhtar (26), a native of Bengaluru's Munishwara Nagar, was arrested last day by the Rural District DANSAF team and the Aluva Police.

Earlier, Safeer waited at the railway station to pick up the arrested woman. The police informed that there is one more person in the group and the investigation for him is in progress. WhatsApp chats between Sarmeen and Safeer regarding the delivery of drugs have also been found from their phones.

The woman was arrested yesterday on the basis of a tip-off received by District Police Chief Dr. Vaibhav Saxena as part of the Operation Clean project. Drugs were smuggled from Delhi by hiding inside a heater. The sale is targeted among the youth in Kochi. After handing over the MDMA here, the carrier usually go back by train the next day. It is reported that the woman is a regular drug trafficker. The investigation was led by Narcotics Cell DySP V Anil and Aluva DySP A Prasad.
