YEMEN: The central government has allowed to hand over money for initial talks over the release of Nimisha Priya, the Malayalee nurse sentenced to death and jailed in Yemen. Nimisha Priya's mother Prema Kumari approached the Centre seeking permission to hand over the money for the initial talks through the Indian Embassy. Following this, the central government took a favourable stand.

The centre will hand over 40,000 US dollars through the Indian Embassy. Once the money reaches the embassy's account, the centre has also given permission to complete the process of handing over to those recommended by Prema Kumari in Sana.

Nimisha Priya is in jail in Sana'a. Prema Kumari and Action Council member Samuel Jerome visited Aden, Yemen and met Nimisha Priya. Samuel Jerome, a native of Tamil Nadu and a member of the Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council, is also the CEO of an airline company in Sanaa.

Attempts are being made to settle with the victim's family by paying blood money. If the relatives forgive, the way will be paved for the release of Nimisha Priya. She was awarded death penalty in 2017 in the case of killing Talal Abdo Mahdi, a Yemeni citizen, by injecting him with sleeping pills to get her passport back.
