THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KSRTC's driving schools, which will teach driving at a fee of up to 40 per cent less than that charged by private driving schools, will start functioning in June. Six centres will be started in the first phase. Out of this, the centre in Thiruvananthapuram will start functioning in June itself. The package of KSRTC consists of practical as well as theory classes.

A track has been prepared near KSRTC's Anayara station in Thiruvananthapuram to teach driving. The theory classes will be held at KSRTC Staff Training College in Attakulangara. A fee of Rs 9000 will be charged for the training to drive vehicles in the heavy vehicle range and also for learning car driving.

The fee is Rs 3,500 for two-wheelers only and Rs 11,000 for both cars and two-wheelers. Vehicles with and without gear will be charged the same rate.

Driving will be taught and trained by KSRTC drivers. Private driving schools charge Rs 15,000 for heavy driving training and Rs 12,000 to Rs 14,000 for car driving and Rs 6,000 for two-wheelers.

KSRTC's driving schools are starting their functions amid ongoing controversy over the government's move to implement driving test reforms.
