Monitoring and inspection by Excise will be strengthened in the state; will deploy patrolling units, says Minister

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Excise Department Minister MB Rajesh has directed to strengthen the monitoring and inspection by the Excise Department in the state in the wake of the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy in Tamil Nadu. The Minister said that necessary precautions would be taken by taking the tragedy in the neighbouring state very seriously.

The minister also directed to ensure extensive surveillance and inspection at all checkposts and border areas in the state

"Additional employees have been temporarily deputed at the necessary check posts. All vehicles entering the state will be monitored and suspicious ones will be checked. Surveillance will also be extended to smaller roads in the border area," the minister said.

"The functioning of the Kerala Excise Mobile Intervention Unit (KEMU) deployed at state borders in four districts will be made more efficient. Apart from this, more patrolling units will also be deployed in the border area. All the excise units in the border area will work in coordination with the checkposts," he added.
