India beat Bangladesh by 50 runs to secure semi-final berth

ANTIGUA: India has secured a spot in the semi-finals of the ongoing T20 World Cup by beating Bangladesh by 50 runs in the Super 8 match held in Antigua on Saturday. The Rohit Sharma-led team had beaten Afghanistan in their first match of the Super 8 round on Thursday. India will be eying to finish as group champions by defeating Australia on Monday.

Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and opted to field against India in their second Super 8 fixture of the ongoing marquee event. Batting first, India managed to put up a score of 196/5 in their 20 overs. Chasing a target of 197, Bangladesh were able to score only 146 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20 overs. It was the batting performances of all-rounder Hardik Pandya (50*), Virat Kohli (37), Rishabh Pant (26), Shivam Dube (34) and Rohit Sharma (23) that took India to 196.

Kuldeep (3/19) was the pick of the bowlers for India, while Bumrah (2/13) and Arshdeep (2/30) also bowled well. Pandya also got a wicket. Among the Bangladeshi batters, only skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto (40), Tanzid Hasan (29) and Rishad Hossain (24) were able to put up a decent fight with the Indian bowlers.
