JAMAICA: Sunday morning marked turned historical for Afghanistan cricket as the team defeated title favourites Australia for the first time. The Afghan team defeated former champions Australia by 21 runs in one of the biggest upsets of the T20 World Cup tournament.

Batting first, Afghanistan scored 148 runs for six wickets. In reply, the Kangaroos stumbled and lost all their wickets scoring just 127 runs in 19.2 overs. The bowling unit led by Gulbadin Naib wreaked havoc and paved the way for Afghanistan's success.

Glenn Maxwell gave hope for the Aussies with some batting fireworks but was put to rest in the 15th over by Naib. Maxwell scored 59 runs in 41 balls. With the surprise win, Afghanistan has revived their semifinal chances while Australia will have to tread a fine line to keep alive the dream of lifting yet another trophy.

Mitchell Marsh had to leave after scoring only 12 runs and David Warner for 3 runs. Stoinis scored 11 and Tim David scored 2 runs. Aussie skipper Pat Cummins also returned to the pavilion with just three runs. Naib and Naveen-ul-Haq took four and three wickets each for Afghanistan.

“This victory will make the people back home happy. This was a 'dream come true' moment for us. Thank god” responded Naib after winning the match.
