Couple reaches Kochi after swallowing cocaine worth Rs 30 crore, arrested

KOCHI: A couple of foreign origin was nabbed in Kochi for swallowing drugs worth Rs 30 crore in the international market. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) team arrested the couple from Tanzania at the Nedumbassery Airport.

The couple reached Kochi on Thursday in a flight from Oman. The DRI team took them into custody and a medical inspection at Aluva Taluk Hospital showed that they have hid cocaine in their bodies. Around 2 kilos of cocaine were found from the youth’s stomach. He was remanded in the case after taking it out. A similar quantity of drugs is believed to be in the woman's body also. The woman is in the hospital to get it removed.

The officials said the couple swallowed the drug in a capsule form wrapped in indigestible tape. It is believed to have been brought to hand it over to people in Kochi. An extensive investigation has been launched into the incident.


3.3 kg of cocaine worth Rs 30 crore was seized at the Chennai International Airport last week. Muhammad Yasika (40) of Indonesia was arrested in the incident. The officials of DRI conducted the investigation following a secret information. The cocaine packets were kept in secret compartments inside the bag.
