Kozhikode declared India's first 'City of literature' by UNESCO

KOZHIKODE: Kozhikode will be known as India's first literary city. The announcement of UNESCO's selection of Kozhikode as a city of literature was made by Local Self-Government Minister M.B. Rajesh performed at the function held at Kandamkulam Jubilee Hall, Kozhikode. He said that Kerala and the country can be proud of Kozhikode's achievement.

As part of the ceremony, the Corporation's Diamond Jubilee Award was presented to writer M.T. Vasudevan Nair. Minister M.B. Rajesh presented the award. Sahitya Nagar's logo publishing and website inauguration was done by Minister P.A. Muhammad Riaz. The announcement of the 'City of literature' was made by lyricist Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri. Mayor Dr. Bina Philip presided. MLA Thottathil Ravindran, poet P K Gopi, Purushan Kadalundi, T.V. Balan, A. Pradeep Kumar, T.P. Dasan, P.K. Nasser, K. Krishnakumari, S. Jayashree, T. Ranish, N.C. Moinkutty, Dr. Feroz, Dr. Ajith Kaliyath also spoke. Deputy Mayor C.P. Muzaffar Ahmed delivered the welcome speech and municipal secretary K.U. Bini delivered vote of thanks.
