Orange alert issued in three districts; Heavy rain expected today and tomorrow

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A heavy rain alert has been issued in three districts today. An orange alert has been declared in Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod today. Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram and Wayanad are on yellow alert. Only Trivandrum and Kollam are on green alert. Light or isolated rain is possible here. Elsewhere isolated heavy rain is expected. Orange alert in Kannur and Kasaragod districts tomorrow.

Meanwhile, moderate rain will occur at isolated places in Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram districts in the coming hours. Central Meteorological Department has informed that light rain is possible at isolated places in other districts as well.

According to the updated high wave alert today, Kasaragod, Kannur and Thiruvananthapuram coasts are under special alert. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Center informed that the coasts of Kasaragod, Kannur and Thiruvananthapuram districts are likely to experience high waves of 2.9 to 3.4 meters from 05.30 pm to 25-06-2024 to 11.30 pm on Sunday.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Center has informed that there is a possibility of black sea phenomenon and high waves on Kerala coast and Tamil Nadu coast till 11.30 pm on 25-06-2024. Fishermen and coastal residents in these areas should exercise special caution.

Precautions

1. As the rough seas are likely to intensify, stay away from danger-prone areas per the authorities' instructions.

2. Keep fishing vessels safely moored in the harbour. Keeping a safe distance between boats can avoid the risk of collision. The safety of fishing equipment should be ensured.

3. Avoid trips to the beach and activities at sea completely.
